Definition of Master Ceremony (MC)

MC is the official host of a staged event or similar performance. The Master of Ceremonies is responsible for ensuring that the program/event runs smoothly, runs on time and that all important people at the event are introduced in a complimentary, professional manner.

The master of ceremony is the “conductor” of an event or a meeting. The primary responsibility of the Master of ceremonies is to serve as a genial host. An ideal MC is a person who has poise, presence and who can command the attention of an audience.The Master of Ceremonies is responsible for ensuring that he program/events run smoothly, runs on time and that all important people at the event are introduced in a complimentary, professional manner. Being a successful Master of Ceremonies requires, preparation, a friendly manner and ability to ensure a successful event.

MC is the host of a private function, event or performance. Their role is to present speakers, announce speeches, talk to the audience and overall make sure the event runs according to plan.This important position is generally considered a prestigious role for events such as weddings, corporate functions or performances .

MC plays a critical role in any conference or event. Fundamentally the role of master of ceremonies is to link the plenary speakers or event by providing introductions for each speaker and relevant comments after each speaker. Masters of Ceremonies however come into their own when something doen’t go to plan. The quality master of ceremonies will be able to fill five minutes while an audio visual problem is being addressed or adjust the schedule when a speaker speaks for too long or finishes early.

MC is an individual who functions as the facilitator and host of an event. Generally, he or she will perform several functions, with some related to interacting with guests and others associated with others working behind the scenes. In general, an effective MC exhibits a warm and inviting personality, is articulate, and has the ability to relate and work well with people.

MC is the individual primarily responsible for setting the tone of competition. He / she creates and sustains an exciting and fun atmosphere throughout the event. In the sport competition event, The MC works as a team with the Game Announcer to produce a well-organized, thrilling event. The MC ensures the smooth flow of match play, and maintains the pace of the event. This is the Key Volunteer Position that significantly impacts the quality of the competition.

The master of ceremonies acts as the host at an occasion. His duties depend on the type of event he is hosting. Because the role is so visible, the MC’s demeanor directly affects the mood of the guests, their receptivity and their enjoyment. A skilled MC monitors the agenda effectively so that an event goes smoothly.
